I think this was the playground out of all 6 I felt most secure in as it was "unplugged" and provided more tangible ways of understanding code for those of us whose brains aren't quite there yet. I particularly liked Little Codr, Clue Master Logical Deduction Game and Bits and Bytes, but I could see implementing all in a rotating station format for an afterschool Library program in the fall.
ReplyDeleteLoved the coding card games as they each teach aspects for the students to learn on their level. There was enough of a variety to meet the needs of all of my students levels. Never thought about using card games to support coding skills.
ReplyDeleteClue Master was a great game to introduce logical thinking games for elementary aged students. I would definitely use this with my students in grades 2 - 6.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the Clue Master. Although it stated that it was single player, Anne Marie and I looked at it together and I think that is how I would use it with students - in a rotation, working in collaborative pairs. They have the logic games online as well so I can introduce it to the whole group on the SmartBoard and then they can work on it independently.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the Bits and Bytes and Robot Turtles. Bits and Bytes introduces the students to vocabulary necessary for coding and it also helps the students with the concept of directionality. Robot Turtles was a great way to differentiate learning by progressively adding in obstacles to their coding.
ReplyDeleteI liked the Code Master. I think that even though it said one player, it works well with two. All of the unplugged activities were similar and are a great way to get the younger students coding in a fun way.
